These are the
minimum recommended system requirements for WinGate to run. This does not take into
account running multiple programs simultaneously. To run several programs on the computer
at the same time, that computer should exceed these recommendations.
- 486 processor or higher
(Pentium is recommended)
- 24MB RAM minimum
- Operating Systems:
- Windows 95 (with Winsock 2)
- Windows 98/ME
- Windows NT (Service Pack 4 or higher)
- Windows 2000 Pro/Server/Advanced Server
- Windows XP Home/Professional
- If you are utilizing an Ethernet Internet connection (e.g. cable
modem, ADSL, DSL, etc.), the WinGate Server Computer (Internet sharing PC) requires two
(2) network adapters. One network adapter will connect to the internal network (typically
a hub or switch) and the other network adapter will connect to the Internet connection
(cable modem, etc.) for external Internet access (to use an Internet account).
- A center connection point for the network (e.g. a hub, switch, or
router) is necessary to connect all the networked computers together. This is standard to
network topologies and not specific to WinGate.
- Internet Access Account:
Functional Internet account (any Internet connection method: such as cable modem, dial-up
modem, satellite, etc.)
- Functional TCP/IP network
- Functional Internet access account for one computer (WinGate server)
Network Setup Wizard (NSW)
requires that you have a functional network. To install NSW, you must be able to share
files between computers with any protocol other than TCP/IP (e.g. NetBEUI, IPX/SPX), as
NSW installs and configures TCP/IP for you. For more information on sharing files between
computers in the network, please refer to your help documentation located under Start /
Help. Search for keywords such as File Sharing, Networking, NetBEUI, or IPX/SPX.
Network Adapter - This
is the physical network card (most commonly placed inside the computer). The typical
network card will have an Ethernet plug-in to allow connections through a cable (Cat5
cable). Cables usually plug into hubs, switches, or the Internet connection where cable
modems, satellite, or DSL's are present.
Internet sharing PC - The
Internet sharing PC is the computer on the network that already has an Internet connection
established (account to the Internet). This computer would have either a dial-up modem,
cable modem, DSL, etc.
